If you want to learn how to solo over a vamp. don't waste your money on Berklee, just transcribe these two solos and listen to their relationship to the rhythm section.They are masterpieces of thematic economy, variation, tension and resolution, and incredible groove. I love that tune. My percussion prof in college back then transcribed Mainieri's vibe solo in Beirut and I remember learning it note for note. Good times. That same year Brecker did a clinic at a nearby community college, and we were all totally floored by the whole EWI thing. Steve Smith did a clinic later that year and I helped him schlep his Sonors around. They were both super nice guys and totally approachable.
