I got this track as a kid on a thin plastic single in a guitar player magazine. It was a Stevie Vai ad for Carvin amps. I played that square piece of plastic w the single pressed into it - until it was completely worn out. Even then, I knew that if I had a Carvin amp I wasn't gunna sound anything like this!
Been listening to this since the 1985 SOUND PAGE version from Guitar Player mag came out (remember the floppy 45rpm records that came with each issue in the 80s?).
It's still one of my favorite pieces of music ever.
Genius.
;)
Yep ,also got this as a single insert in a guitar magazine in the mid eighties ,needless to say it was quite mindblowing .My brothers played over and over again.

Not only was this first released as a flexi-disk record in the pages of "Guitar Player" magazine, it was something Steve Vai supposedly just threw together as a promotional demo for the capabilities of the Carvin X100-B amp.
