Forever one of the most beautiful songs in pop history (although it doesn't get the credit) - I've heard it hundreds of times since age of 13 and it always sound just as magical!
One of the loveliest songs ever written by Davies, or anyone. quintessentially English, a hot summer day, bees buzzing and tea with scones in a tea shop. the river quietly flowing by, children laughing and splashing, and this song gives me happiness. Thoughts of a girl and young love that was not going to last, though you never thought this at the time. Gawd, the sadness of the past, and the joys as well !
Days I'll remember all my life,
Days when you can't see wrong from right.
You took my life,
But then I knew that very soon you'd leave me,
But it's all right,
Now I'm not frightened of this world, believe me.
Days.
Still miss you dad.
I lost my Darling wonderful wife to the Bastard cancer a few weeks ago.I used this song at her funeral as this song optimized our life together in the most wonderful decade of song & care free life.While it brings tears to my eyes it also brings happy memories & a much needed smile.Thank you for all the love & joy that you brought me my precious PAT.
(please excuse all the tears on the keyboard}
Well done Ray, your knighthood is well deserved....... if not a little late - 20 years late, after fellow musician and composer Paul McCartney, yet you started writing tunes at about the same time
It is actually about his sister moving to Australia, so he wouldn't see her as much. Which I think is very sweet. But is sounds like it's about a lost loved one.
This is the most beautiful and perfect song I have ever heard! Every aspect of the song, from the music to the singing to the lyrics, fits perfectly together. There's something almost magical about the Kinks and their music.
