thought one: mary weiss had one of the most beautiful speaking voices. thought two: this just wrecks you with the implication of sexual assault in the second verse. thought three: morton and weiss comoing together to make the third verse is like selznick, leigh and mitchell making 'gone with the wind'; it may not be art but it works! it speaks to the lonely and hurt people in this world.

At last I've found this song. I heard it back in 1970 on Kenny Everett's BBC Radio One show. At the time I was recording his shows off the radio as they were so funny, but on the recording the details were missing and I've spent the last 40-odd years wondering who and what it was!

here's a strange one.. I'm not sure Ludwig would like it though... be warned, dancing and a trip to the beach is ok, but defo not touching! What is a 'tisket'?

One of those great songs where it's the things that aren't said that build up the story in one's head

I remember my best friend Stan, we worked at the Leduce, one of the first ever gay night clubs in Soho, London W1, he bought this album, we loved it, he died 20 years ago, and I still think of him when I hear this track, wonderful memories xxxx

Mary was an actress, pure and simple.  I wish she'd been around in the golden age of radio drama;  she would have been a star.  Incredible intuitive talent for one who was about sixteen at the time!

What a haunting and thought provoking song I have ever heard. This is a masterpiece of sound and surrealism. It is Epic!

...I'm all packed up and I'm on my way and I'm gonna fall in love; but at the moment it doesn't look good; at the moment It'll never happen again... The emotion in her voice is overwhelming.

The past, past, well now let me tell you about the past The past is filled with silent joys and broken toys Laughing girls and teasing boys Was I ever in love? I called it love - I mean, it felt like love There were moments when, well, there were moments when Present, go out with you? Why not Do I like to dance? Of course Take a walk along the beach tonight? I'd love to But don't try to touch me, don't try to touch me 'Cause that will never happen again Shall we dance The future, tomorrow? well tomorrows a long way off Maybe someday I'll have somebody's hand Maybe somewhere someone will understand You know I used to sing - a tisket a tasket a green and yellow basket I'm all packed up and I'm on my way and I'm gonna fall in love But at the moment it doesn't look good At the moment it will never happen again I don't think it will ever happen again

Heartbreaking. Right on. It's all heartbreaking. The world will break everybody's heart in the end. Why? Because there will come a day when the music will stop.
