Such a criminally underrated band. One of the greatest rock bands of all time. It pisses me off that most people only know Boys Are Back. They had so many better songs and this is one of them. God Bless Lizzy and Lynott.
The song reminds me of my brother who ran away from home when he was 16. He came back as a 30-year old in the same, shabby pair of jeans, wearing a cowboy hat. He told us that he had worked in Brazil in coffee fields, fell in love with a girl whose father almost shot him, had been in prison.. It was 5 years ago. He's gone again, we don't know where he is. But he'll be back, I'm sure. He won't stay in the same place for too long, he's The Wild One..
Note how brilliantly Lynot ranges his voice around the musical arrangement, and his timing along with allowing the poetry's passion to be be the center of the song and be at full force.
They finish the song with a tight, beautiful guitar flourish. Dramatic.
Note also that as the song intensifies, it spills into near anger as Lynot demands that his lover not talk to strangers. There are poignant elements of loneliness, love, and possesiveness.
Reminds me of a woman I loved, I was the wild one in actuality, took her for granted for years and she inevitably went her own way, for some reason this song has always reminded me of her. Especially the lyrics "so you go your way and wild one I'll try and follow, and if you change your mind I will be waiting here for you tomorrow" It's been a little over three years now and at Times I still find myself in tears over her. Haha they say you live and learn, I Damn sure did, the hard way.
Phil Lynott, wish he was still here! absolute timeless classic brilliance! maybe another 40 years others will start catching up to him. imagine Philo, Prince and Jimi Hendrix jamming together...
i once saw thin lizzy on a vh1 show about one hit wonders, i couldn't stop laughing. thats a good one! lizzy is hands down up there with fleetwood mac and and the eagles as one of the best bands to come out of the 70s
This is the one .... No, I'm not talking about the song from Thunder and Lightning... I mean this is the one. This is the song that got me hooked on thin Lizzy.
...this the best song ever by Thin Lizzy!...Phil's voice and pitch: absolutely perfect with this ballad and those bright but sad dual guitars along with those soft skins keeping beat, compliment it all to an eternity.
