We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when,
Bit I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.
Keep smiling through just like you always do,
Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away.
So will you please say hello to the folks that I know, tell them I won’t be long.
They’ll be happy to know that as you saw me go, I was singing this song.
We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when,
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.
I always get tears in my eyes when I hear this song. As a German (born in 1963) I am so grateful that the allies freed my country from the Nazis and brought us democracy. Today my thoughts are with all British, American and Canadian soldiers who sacrified their lives to free the world from tyranny. We will never forget that. Thank you!
This one is dedicated to all of the people that ARE staying home...
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Til the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them it won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singin' this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny daaaaay!
During WWII, Vera Lynn would sing this to the troops that were about to be sent into battle and some of them would not come back. It gave them courage to meet their fate, one way or the other, and to know that their sacrifice is and was worth what they were about to encounter. This song helped them to believe that they will meet up with their loved ones in another life and they need not worry about those left behind. May God bless each and every man and woman who endured the trauma of that terrible war. May it never be repeated.
