Idk why but 2:07 never ceases to give me chills and goosebumps when he hits that last chord and he looks up with the biggest smile on his face....holy crap!!!!

So grateful that there is actually footage of this awesome talent, even if there isn't that much be as it may. It is almost unfathomable to actually see him moving across the keyboard. When I listen to just the recordings without video, I find myself not believing another human being is creating all that sound himself. Gives me shivers to see this man play. Completely effortless technique, it's almost like his hands were robust enough to handle any physical demand the piano needed. To play in Art's style of stride requires tremendous strength, coordination and stamina. Never has a musician garnered so much respect from all facets of the music world. The great Vladimir Horowitz once said something along the lines of, if Tatum ever decided to take up playing classical music seriously, he would quit the following day.

My favourite jazz pianist. He was only 47 when he died in late 1956. He is the God of all jazz pianists and more people should know about this musical genius who was almost totally blind from birth.

He tends to have a standard arrangement for each song but always with a few delightful variations that take your breath away, especially this piece. And what a treat it is to see his fingers glide so effortlessly over the keyboard.

People, this is not virtuosity. This is intellect. This is thought. 'Virtuosity' is only a result of his ideas.
