One of my all-time faves from the late Cedar Walton. Thanks to Mr. Walton for the magic, the music, and your incredible gift to both jazz piano & to jazz at large (and thank you for posting!!)
Yeah i hear whats sounds like dex on an alto at first in bobs solo To have a nice start "lyrically telling a great story than coltrane comes out {BIG} what a great player.
Thanks for another version of "Bolivia", a tune I have loved ever since the Magic Trangle (Cedar and Clifford Jordan with Sam and Billy). I also like the one Cedar made with Milt Jackson Live at the Kosei Nenkin.
One of my all time favorite tunes by one of my favorite bands. I can't get guys to play this tune sometimes. I think the changes are tough for them to handle. One buddy told me that there is nothing to say on this tune? I said "Ok" and let it go. These guys sure are saying a lot on this tune..To each their own I guess.
It's a fact. Bob was a close friend of mine and when he got a gig with Miles on Al Foster's recommendation I was so happy for him, When we met after his first rehearsal he was a little sad and said "MIles really liked me, but said I should switch to alto, because I sound like one anyway"....
Regardless, Bob was one of the better saxophone players and IMO he's done his best Jazz work in this great band before he switched to fusion....
