When I was in college I performed with a fantastic USO tour group called the Varsity Vagabonds. When I heard this, I fell in love with her voice and this arrangement - so of course I found the music and did an arrangement for the group. To this day, When I hear her voice and this arrangement, I am transported!
I agree. I wanted to upload more songs, but most of them are currently available on a couple of cd releases and I didn't want to get caught up in copyright infringement issues. The songs I chose don't appear (or have never appeared on any) on any cd.
In the mid to late 60's I worked my way through college as a DJ (on AM stations) and as a "radio announcer" (on FM)--the distinctions were very rigid. Every night an inebriated woman would call and ask me to play this beautiful song and I would although it was not a call-in show. Then I saw the film "Play Misty For Me" and I got nervous about taking her calls--but I kept playing this song and I have looked everywhere for it and keep bumping into Janet Jackson. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks!! Such a wonderful composition and lyric AND performance. Damita owns this song !!! There other great interpretations of course, but this song is hers!
I have been searching for a Damita Jo song that has these lyrics in it: "There's a land in the sky and the place where we'll meet by and by, so dream of our little Loveland, land of ours way up high in the sky.. etc etc etc. If you know it let me know. Thanks.
