I received this record at Christmas 1954 together with a secondhand wind-up HMV gramophone given to me by my grandmother who had bought it off a lodger of hers called Peter le Huray who went on to become a famous organist.I was 5 and still have that Decca 78 which really takes me back to amongst my earliest musical memories, David certainly had a great voice !.
For me this is probably the most beautiful of all Christmas songs, and it was beautifully done by David Whitfield. He has the Operatic voice of the Great Caruso.
They play the same old Christmas records on the radio and in shops every year until you never want to hear them again if they only had a bit more imagination they'd stick some different stuff amongst the predictable like this,
