My oh my oh my Do you really have to cry?
Crying like a summer rain
Lady let me ease your pain.
Why oh why oh why
Don’t you spread your winds and fly?
Flying like an autumn wind
Lady did you lose a friend?
Don’t be sad and down
Take another look around
Maybe what you’ve lost you’ve found.
Don’t be sad and down
Take another look around
Maybe what you’ve lost you’ve found
We really throw the word "genius" around carelessly these days. I love Kevin Ayers. Have for decades. Probably have over 20 records and CD's by the man. But to refer to him as a genius seems really careless. I don't think even Kevin would say that of himself. He wrote a bunch of beautiful ballads, an equal amount of quirky nuggets, and a fair number of good rockers. Let's be real and leave it at that.
R.I.P. Kevin Ayers. Hope there are lots of bananas and wine wherever you are.
I agree with you on the "word genius" thing, I rarely use it. But Kevin was a genius for me, in his semplicity was his greatness (well, if you listen to his songs very carefully, they're not easy at all) and in his lyrics and the atmosphere of his songs.
You can disagree, but I won't change my mind.
