Great classic that no Jazz lover can afford to be without. I, personally, prefer it to Charlie Parker versions (and I love them very much). Sonny is one of the most consistent artists in Jazz but he sounds particularly inspired on this date. This is one of his best solos. Thanks for sharing!

Tone somewhat warmer than Bird..Bird played at points and chord changes with more abruptness...for lack of abetter word..classic shit though

I know he played both Alto and tenor, but Sonny will always be my favorite (alto) player. He was just as good as CP, but his recordings had better sound quality.

Stitt has always been superb both on tenor and alto.

I liked DG, (matter of fact) he looked like my father, but I would listen to Johnny Griffin, or Houston Person, before DG.

Beautiful stuff! People used to criticize him for sounding too much like Bird but when you sound that good who cares?

But I would like to add: (Making) "Comparisons are odious." (Like between Bird and Stitt) or, indeed--anyone and anyone else. Most things have some merit. (I know. I know. The First Amendment.)
