You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song
You are the angel glow that lights a star
The dearest things I know are what you are
Someday my happy arms will hold you
And someday I’ll know that moment divine
When all the things you are, are mine
Fantastic piece. Although I have to say I liked the trombone arrangement a bit more than this because they have a warmer, but crisp sound, and I'm a bit biased.
Jazz doesn't have to swing and rock to present a piece of music.' Tone colour means just that, a variation of all moods and feelings from the sad to the high-flying exuberance. You don't judge an orchard by looking at one apple.
hey people,
if you don't like his music don't listen to it.
end of discussion!!
the guy was a visionary who also happened to be a heavy drinker and went thru 4-5 wives!!
his music speaks for itself very progressive and pushed the envelope, not for everyone.
you have to have to an open mind to appreciate his music!!

Kenton, my all time favorite big band in high school and college. He could make music in such a way that so fit my creative brain that oft. went awry over shape, color and musical substance... His big band and the Four Freshman rounded out my curious need for dissonant musical harmony that fit so well.
some of the older comments make me laugh.two things for sure Kenton swung like the clappers and his interpretations of ballads are legendary.i heard him live in the 50s and have never forgotten that experience it lives with me today.stan the man.
Kenton was a very special animal. You either loved him or hated him. There was little in-between. As for me, I loved him immensely. The "mellophonium orchestra", from which this side came, was truly unique. Kenton won two well-deserved Grammy Awards during this time, for his albums "West Side Story" and "Adventures In Jazz". Well-deserved, both of them. Thanks for sharing, malawolf85.
this is the real artillery Kenton with outstanding young soloists large through their entire musical career His skills were armonic-rhythmic combined with latin american influences which made SK famous .
My favorite band. My favorite Kenton albums are Adventures in Blues and Standards in Silhouette. Love those mellophoniums! Thanks for posting this beautiful ballad.
All The Things You Are is, for me, one of the most beautifully crafted songs ever written and the sound of the Kenton Band does wonderfully do justice in this arrangement of its beauty. There is another recording that was done with the song a little faster than this one and I feel it was a little too fast, and this one is a little too slow, so the best tempo for it is what this old drummer hears in his own head. Nonetheless the voicings and chords here are gorgeous in this arrangement.
