This was the first Holdsworth song I listened to maybe 10-11 years ago. I was still a teenager (13-14) and had never heard anything remotely like this before. My brain didn't really know how to classify it, but I could at least intuit that something wonderful was happening. Definitely a life changing moment for me insofar as my understanding of music goes. RIP Allan Holdsworth.
He taps on some of the clean parts on the double time feel section and on the head of Tokyo Dreams but I don't think he taps on any of the solos on this tune.
The musicality, tone, speed and fluidity is absolutely jaw dropping. This is one of those "I can't believe what I'm hearing moments". Next level genius.
Somebody below said Best Album Berlin ever did. I'm going to have to agree with that. And the Bruford Tapes. He's really laying it down thick here and having a blast of a time!
I was able to get my hands on this one - it was HARD to find on CD...had to keep looking until I found a source on eBay. Then I picked up Metal Fatigue. Both great CD's!
