thank you so much for posting this, as this is the original and i love it (I love Muddy mind you!) but this was her song first and from a female standpoint, its nice to sing!

Preston Foster knew Ann and probably wrote it for her. I saw Ann doing the song in a Johnny Otis roadshow in LA in 1959. As I've said I shouldn't have said Muddy stole it. She made it so popular when she toured with his show,,after she left he kept it in his show. Chess records,,Muddy's label did try to say they owned it,,it was in court for years,,they lost. Whole story on the net.

Muddy's record actually came out before Ann Cole's, even if it was written specifically for her. They told her not to sing it on that tour but she couldn't help herself.

One of the best 50's R&B female singers.  Never got her proper dues along with Faye Simmons .  You live on on my turntable Annie.

Well, you do learn something everyday. Thanks for the heads-up! I agree credit where credits due; including the fact that Muddy really made it his own with the best rendition ever!

Thank you for posting this" original-original" version - heard this on WBGO-FM Rhythm Review yesterday. Its one of my all time favorites and Ann's version is cool... like the additional verses and kinda Doo-wop background vocals.

Well it's gotta start somewhere. Often times it's the manager with the connections that "make a star". The Capitalistic,,free interprise system works like that,,which is what keeps our country going.
