I wouldnt call Anne "underrated"!She was and still is a big name.To my opinion she was the best female vocalist(apart from classical singers of course)the UK produced in the last 70 years. In my country Holland she was much appreciated too and to young singers with too much pretention they used to say:Who do you think you are? Anne Shelton?!!Anne had a glorious voice in her prime, almost sounded semi-classical with her dark mezzo-voice.With respect for Vera Lynn but Anne was voicewise far better
I love Ann Shelton, she and Julie Andrews were the two singers that I "learned to sing with" as a kid growing up, long before I ever had singing lessons. You're quite right about her breath control, she could teach plenty of modern day singers a thing or two in that department. I love the mellow tone of her voice & this song always reminds me of one of my favourite films, The Quiet Man. Thank you so much for sharing
Oh, I'm SOOOO excited!!! I recorded Anne's version of "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" from the radio while in college in the late 80s, but missed what her name was. I've spent the last 20+ years trying to figure out who it was, and thanks to my iPhone app, I found out today. SHE IS WONDERFUL!!! Thanks for posting.
I don't think any other popular female singer had the long line she had in singing. The breath control is just amazing. In many ways, she sang as a crooner did but there's never any question we are hearing a sensitive woman. With her clear as a bell voice, wonderful intonation and enunciation, great feeling for time an rhythm, she is quite extraordinary.
A great song, performed by a singer with an amazing voice. This has always been one of my favourite irish songs. Anne Shelton is a very under-rated singer, and it's a real shame she isn't better known.
Wow, did she really do the first English version of Lili Marlene? I thought that was Vera Lynn? Or even Marlene Dietrich actually haha :)
Great upload anyway!
