Hey, I might be 48 but the music I dug when I was young is still as cool as it ever was. I have a 14 year old son who listens to Nirvana with his buddies and gets as turned on by their sound as I do. I was in Hong Kong when Kurt Cobain shot himself, and was impressed by a T-shirt I saw shortly afterwards, in Camden in London, picturing Cobain with a shotgun in his mouth, saying 'Good shooting, son'!

It feels weird to listen to them again after 40 years. It was great music, it was different, it was stirring. BUT, it was dark and for all my love for it, today I can call it out for what it was. For countless impressionable and often unstable teenagers it was poison. I dont think music by itself leads people, no matter how immature they are, to do bad things to themselves and others, but it sure as hell can be the background for disastrous paths. I remember the fun, the sex, the dancing, but I also remember the dope, the depression, the joblessness, the disorientation that many of us paid dearly with many lost years and some even with their lives. The jury is still out, but for me, it was a sweet poison...
