Ineffably beautiful. Perfection. Beings that bring forth such beauty are worthy and I want them to thrive.

Does anyone know where the tune "This Time" comes from on this extraordinary piece by Betty Carter? I don't think it's part of "Beware My Heart". But what a perfect compliment!

THIS is the album I use to listen to back in the 70s. It is the album that introduced me to Betty Carter. This is truly her CLASSIC album! I've seen her perform every single song on this album in person, back in the 70s at a little club in Greenwich Village called "The Needles Eye"! Ahhhhh -- those were the days ! ! !

So blessed to have heard her sing at a small club in Northampton, Mass.1985. The best live music experience of my life. And I heard Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald live, as well. I think Betty Carter was more intimately connected to the way music and lyric meld together (Phrasing? Yet something more, something innately musical...) than almost any vocalist I've ever heard. She was MAGIC.

A truly unique singer who voice was a sublimely expressive instrument. When she had good material and a good arrangement, like this, she was magic.

This lady's voice is a true instrument in and of itself. I've never heard a voice so beautiful and melodious. So sorry that it took me until the 1993 reissue of "Inside Betty Carter" to really appreciate the lady that sang with Ray Charles on their 1960 duets album. Also, really enjoy her take on "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most".where she really stands out among jazz improv singers.

This really is beautiful, such a light, delicate touch but not faltering on the note one bit - sitting perfectly - what vocal control and tenderness - that's how to do it!
