Is it true what they say about Dixie
Does the sun really shine all the time
Do the sweet magnolias blossom at everybody’s door
Do the folks keep eating possum til they can’t eat no more
Is it true what they say about Swanny
Is a dream by the stream so sublime
Do they laugh do they love like they say in every song
If it’s true that’s where I belong
Is it true what they say about Dixie
Does the sun really shine all the time
Well do the sweet magnolias blossom at everybody’s door
Do the folks keep eating that possum til they can’t eat no more
Is it true what they say about Swanny
Is a dream by the stream so sublime
Do they laugh love like they say in every song
If it’s true that’s where I belong
I downloaded a modification for the game Fallout 4, and it added radio stations to the in-game experience, and this hypnotic song was on one of them. Very catchy!
Song taken from the album "Rocking the Oldies". It was the first of three "themed albums" that Haley recorded for Decca. On this occasion the album consisted of re-recordings of popular standards, some dating back 30 years or more, but rearranged in a rock and roll style.
Classic Frank Beecher lead guitar break using all of the elements he brought to Haley's records.
Beecher had been with Benny Goodman prior to joining Haley in 1955 and had not played "Rock" before.
He was not used to playing " loud" and had to acclimate himself to the task.
In early TV clips of him in the band, he is playing an arch top Epiphone more suited to his prior role as a "big band" guitarist.
By 1956, he was using a first version Les Paul Custom and various large tweed Fender amps. Later, with Haley as a Gibson endorser, Beecher was using the LP with a Gibson 400 amp and was also seen with a full bodied Gibson arch top and in his last days with Haley, an early ES 335.
