The very thought of you
I forget to do
Those little ordinary things
That everyone ought to do
I'm livin' in a kind of a daydream
I'm happy as a queen
And foolish though it may seem
To me that's everything
The mere idea of you
The longing here for you
You'll never know
How slow the moments go
Till I'm near to you
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you,
The very thought of you, my love
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you,
The very thought of you, my love
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
The very thought of you, my love
I see your face in every flower
Your eyes in stars above
It's just the thought of you
When I was very young and my grand father used to watch me while my parents were away, I used to get very home sick and missed them. He would sing this song to me and it always put a smile on my face. I didn't know where it came from until this song came up during a Billie Holiday playlist. I like to think it's him telling me everything will be okay.. miss you grandpa bill
My aunt used to sing this to me. I grew up listening to this. It was my lullaby when my aunt would take care of me. My aunt still sings to this to me to this day. Listening to the actual song now makes me wanna cry.

Sinatra once said he studied how Billie "lived in the interior of her songs". High praise indeed...Next to her almost every single female vocalist is close but not quite there
Love music from this time. Makes me feel sad, honestly, almost nostalgic for a time way before I was born. But they knew how to do romance back then :)
She is our air. Our breath . Our laughs. Our hugs.
When we have nothing else.
Believe me.
Billie is happiness.
Even our hard times before we laugh and start all over again....
♥ Bless us all.
Outstanding! Thank you.
The very best cut from Lady Day’s Vocalion NY session, 15 SEP 1938.
Billie Holiday and Her Orchestra
Buck Clayton tp/ Dickie Wells tb/ Lester Young ts/ Margaret Johnson p/ Freddie Green g/ Walter Page b/ Jo Jones d/ Billie Holiday voc
Countess (or Queenie) Johnson lived to be almost 20, dying from TB almost a year after this session.
Young’s clarinet solo (1:42)… no equal. Amazing how his clarinet sound varies not much from his tenor sax. :I:
