Lyrics
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotized by the Whirl
Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
Game we're playing is life
Love is a two way dream
Leave me now, return tonight
Tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one way street
I'm a whisper in water
Secret for you to hear
You are the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near
Leave me now, return tonight
The tide will show you the way
If you forget my name
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay
I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruder hand
I'm the branch that you break
Hum-yeah!
I listened to this song for the first time something like 15 years ago, when my english was really really bad (I'm italian). That night, I dreamt a group of whales trapped in a bay, and the day after, translating the lyrics, and I found out that I dreamt a moment of the song. I thing it's because the power of this song went over my ears and reached something deep in my soul.
such a true song. the video as gives me chills since it depicts the reality of over usage of ones treasured work. be it Art. a Book. a Movie etc... the way she brings it all together is baffeling to say the least
When I was a teenager I used to say the only woman I would marry was Björk. I'm gay...and It would never happen..But it gave me something to say about women. I knew I was sticking out of the macho crowd, not talking about girls and what not...Björk gave me cover for a while..And an excuse to stick out. No one, if not as special and sticking out as Björk was good enough for me ;) I was punk in my teens...she gave me an even bigger excuse not to date girls. they would have to be like her. ;) Today I see they all are...Women..powerful like her.
Björk actually composed the song herself, and the lyrics are by an Icelandic poet friend of hers called Sjón. The story involves Isobel from her previous album, so Bachelorette is very much hers.
