The band, the voice, the lyrics. Never gets repetitive and there is always a little surprise that makes you realize how tricky it was to pull off just right. Always thought Blind Melon was way too musically sophisticated to be lumped in the grunge garage band category. I was trained in music many years in school, my ears hear tons of classical overtones in the songs. Love the way they do tempo / timing shifts in a lot of their stuff too. My kids were in middle school in the 90's, I worked nights. When they left for school, I quick did the dishes, then blazed up and played Tetris on their game system while listening to BM for a couple hours. Miss this band.
Lyrics:
Pull you down now.
Knees knelt, I got my arms open wide,
I got the shades turned, so the colors die.
No, don't hold too tight to the reel,
Cause it's a big one boy,
Its' gonna pull you down now.
Pull you down now.
No, the cook can't look, no can't look,
No, no cause he's keeping his eye on the kettle.
Indeed he will be around,
When you or you or you feel the need to feel.
Pull you down now.
Well I live more than what you'll ever know.
But I'll give you more than what I'll ever show.
I live more than what you'll ever know.
And I give you more that what I'll ever show.
More than I'll ever show...
because aside from being an amazing singer/songwriter....he really liked to shoot heroin! i think the pressure of maturing as a man and father collided wth the fuel of his rock stardom and musical talent! Utube their last cpl shows from the metro and the up close and interactive shows....he's completely wasted! But fucking great tho! RIP Shannon...and Big Love to Nico. Lets hope she can carry his flame w/o the needle! She's extremely talented.
It's very sad. We lost quite a few people in a short time span. But the 90s were the x generations early 70s. Loss of genius. And yes Shannon missed the 27 club... That's because he was too real for that.✌
