And it s no complaint you hear tonight, it s not some pilgrim who s seen the light
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you, i didn t come to fool you
Though i don t even know the name, it s a cold and broken hallelujah
But if i did, but you don t really care for music do you
It s a cold and broken hallelujah, you say i took the name in vain Brandi, and from your lips she drew the hallelujah
i couldn t feel so i tried to touch
and even though it all went wrong
But you don t really care for music do you, i ll stand before the lord of song
And it s no complaint you hear tonight, and from your lips she drew the hallelujah, though i don t even know the name
There s a blaze of light in every word, i heard there was a secret chord
was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
I did my best, she cut your hair, what s it to you
the fourth the fifth
I did my best, i ve told the truth, you say i took the name in vain
It s not some pilgrim who s seen the light, she tied you to a kitchen chair
Maybe there s a god above, maybe there s a god above
It goes like this, her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
It s not some pilgrim who s seen the light, what s it to you
It s not some pilgrim who s seen the light, you say i took the name in vain, there s a blaze of light in every word
It s a cold and broken hallelujah, it doesn t matter what you heard Brandi, i couldn t feel so i tried to touch
She cut your hair, with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah, and even though it all went wrong
and even though it all went wrong
i ve told the truth
I ll stand before the lord of song, but all i ever learned from love, the holy or the broken
When I was 12, she came to Lyons and sang Hallelujah. I can still remember stretching out on the grass, snuggled close to my father as her voice rang across the rocks. I can remember closing my eyes and drifting away to something that was more than music. I can remember seeing tears on the faces of grown men and smiles on the faces of women. There wasn't a single person there who wasn't moved by this song. To this day, it is probably the best concert I've ever been to. Thank you Brandi. I wish you all the luck in the world.
What is so important about Brandie's cover is most covers totally miss communicate the message of the song.. Only very few artists that managed to understand and deliver the true message correctly.. And Brandie is definitely one of them.. Brilliant!
As a newborn, my daughter had colic. The only time she wasn't crying was when I was bouncing her up and down with this song blaring. It was a life saver and to this day my daughter, who is now 4, asks for it before bed.
Usually I really despise unnecessary orchestral accompaniment — it's the only reason I don't listen to Paul McCartney more often, it annoys me so. But here ... here the orchestra is fitting, the arrangement is just the right mixture and integration that it doesn't disrupt the rest of the song, and in fact, adds to it. I don't know how they pulled that off. Definitely one of my favorite renditions of the song.
