ha...I do still live there...on the old family farm, in the same house my grandpa and grandma lived in. I have roosters that wake me up every morning. One that comes to the back porch to roost at night and so every morning he awakens me with his crowing. I love to hear his 4 AM crow. I have a whole back yard full of farm birds. I cannot imagine living anywhere else. The city? Not for me.

There is so much musical talent out there and Charlie Pride is right there with the best of them. Many in the music field have given us great music and a legacy of their talent to enjoy. Love this song, just can't hear it enough and I play it often.

Have you ever been awakened By the crowing of a rooster While the night's dew is still heavy on the ground And the voice of Uncle Ben Seems to break the morning's silence Bringing lights to windows all around Well it's time to rise and shine And start another hard workday And get the cows in and start the milking chores It's nice to think about it, maybe even visit it But I wonder could I live there anymore ***************** Something 'bout the smell of cornbread Cooking on a wood stove Seems to bring a picture to my mind Of a little three room house with mama in the kitchen But she can't stop to talk, ain't got the time She's a fixing daddy's supper, he's a 'working overtime Trying to pay our bill at the grocery store It's nice to think about it, maybe even visit it But I wonder could I live there anymore ***************** As I think about my childhood And of my old hometown I don't really miss them like before It's nice to think about it, maybe even visit it But I wonder could I live there anymore.....

Love this song. It makes me to back to my raising. So true, though.

I know Charley didn't write the song but he well could have. Today's country stars can't honestly sing about humble beginnings and working their way to the top from obscuerity

This great song was written after a vacation trip songwriter Bill Rice took to his hometown, in the summer months of 1969, and was recorded by Country Charlie Pride in 1970. :-)
