I saw Chase in Boston at the Jazz Workshop in 1974, wile I was at Berklee. I subsequently went "on the road" with a trumpet player leader who knew Chase personally and took lessons from him. When the plane crashed it wiped out all seven of us, and the band vaporized. The third album is a wonderful testament to where Bill wanted to go. I will miss him forever.
RIP, Bill Chase. It was 42 years ago today that you left us with so much music yet unwritten. You believed in trumpets being out front, strong, and prominent. Long live the music of Chase.
