I love Sarah Vaughan but Chris Connor is amazing too, love this version a lot!! And yes i love Sakamichi no Apollon version too

Late one night, years ago when I lived in Greenwich Village, I espied Connor walking along 8th Street all alone. I've only ever approached two other famous folk in my life—and then in broad daylight—Billy Wilder and Myrna Loy. It was late and I didn't want to frighten her, thus I crept up cautiously as I could, then introduced myself. Chris was so . . . COOL. She didn't even appear startled. Trust me, it was VERY late. I couldn't believe how kind and sweet she was. Connor even invited me to be her guest the next night—all expenses paid—at the Greenwich Village jazz club where she was appearing. I saw her live at Ronnie Scott  when I was 19. I sat 2 feet from her - wonderful wonderful - ... I took a jazz voice degree because of her voice. ! Love this  - .... at 16 years old I listened and listened to her and Anita O'day and Sarah Vaughan - copied them all... I am now 50  - seems a life time ago!

It just me or Sakamichi no Apollon brought me here?

I don't want to be that guy who says 'here because of Kids on the Slope' but seriously that show has introduced me a ton great Jazz albums :)

I love Chris Connor, but the exec at Bethlehem Records that thought that this was a good photo for her album cover needs a good smack on the face. She looks like she is either waiting for someone to toss some popcorn into her mouth or that she is in a hollering contest.

This is my favorite version of the song, although Ella's rendition is also very good. Elegant simplicity. No scat or extended jazzy solo that destroys the song's continuity.
