I bought this album in 1995 when Christine first release it.
I was working in Borneo at the time.
All my friends wanted a CD, they were Brits, Kiwis, Norwegians Singaporeans and Bruneians.
They all thought it was an awesome album.
Still is.
This song reminds me so much of my childhood. Back in 2000 I lived in a town on the outskirts of Sydney and it was the time of the first ever Olympics I remember and because we were the host city we did so much Olympic stuff at school and even had the torch run through my town and this song always takes me back to my favourite time in my life when all that mattered was having fun with friends and it is my happy place whenever I get stressed. This song is amazing. I think it should be used by Australia for more sporting events.
thinkin this IS our National Anthem .. Inclusive & Heartfelt.. weren't we all taught Australia is the world's Biggest Island? Don't mean 2 diminish the connection Indigenous peeps have.. just that as a 7th gen Aussie I fiercely cannot call Anywhere else Home.. plus mosta my Ancestors came from shore living, sea-faring folk.. just saying... (",)
You have earned your right to be called a mother figure Christine. I am not of indigenous background, but i am proud to say i understand my island home.
I am from Aoteroa New Zealand and indigenous to this country. i too live in the city but come from a small country town by the sea. this song feels like it was written for me it speaks my truth and the longing i have to return one day. Christina is an inspiration for all indigenous people. Wahine toa!!!
I remember going to a 4 day concert/festival in the Northern Territory when I was nearly 6 years old. On the night of my sixth birthday I watched Christine Anu sing this song from my place in the middle of a huge crowd of people, and that memory has never left me since. I can't believe it's been nearly TWENTY years since that night.
I love this song. I miss my island home Papua New Guinea, just north of Australia. I now live in Salt Lake City, Utah. When i listen to this song it makes me home sick. I miss my home.
