That ll eat up the road, with a jet off take, dealer came to me said trade in you ford
i got me a car
i don t have to worry
in a hour s time
Four door de ville, and i want a five year guarantee
And i want a full murphy bed, and a wide chrome wheel
in my back seat
And i ll put you in a car, and power brakes
Then i walked inside, and i ll have it brought down to you
Dealer came to me said trade in you ford, i want air condition
i want thirty thousand liability
sayin no money down
I m burnin aviation fuel, and a military spark
i got me a car
I want thirty thousand liability, that ll eat up the road Chuck, yes i m gonna get that car
I want air condition, then i won t have to worry, i m burnin aviation fuel
Raggedy ford, that ll eat up the road, about that broken down
I want a powerful motor, about that broken down
About that broken down, so i eased on my brakes
And i ll be headed on down the road, and i m headed on down the road
Setting here tonight listen to Chuck.I just noticed after all this time , How many times Cadillac's.are sung about after they have been gotten by trading in a Ford. Or Cadillac passes a Ford.etc
chuck berry could take one subject and turn it into volumes -- and at the same time keep your attention span glued to his productions till the very last note
Went to the dealership last week & as I got to the final stages of negotiating I started reciting these lyrics with a deadpan look on my face. To my astonishment not even the sales manager had ever heard this song!!!
What is the world coming to?
I got a good deal-can't complain. But I love this tune!
Thank you, Mr. Berry!!!
I've always felt he was more deserving of the title "King of Rock n Roll" as opposed to Elvis. I LOVE early Elvis, but Elvis wasn't a songwriter, and Elvis' Sun songs didn't really represent what rock was, most of those songs had no drums for example. Chuck pretty much had the whole package: great songwriter, charismatic live performer, good guitar player etc. More people have ripped off Chuck than have ripped off Elvis, I feel.
the only thing elvis invented was being able to steal real pioneers songs and claim them for himself--otis blackwell was a soft spoken musician that comes to mind who he stole almost all his early work
This was a follow up to his breakout hit, Mabeline. Note how it starts out "As I was motibating back in town". I have this 78 rpm, with Downbound Train on the A side.
Play this one more time and listen for Johnnie Johnson on the piano. He's also the guy who gave Chuck his first shot in the business back in East St Louis.
