Why is everyone so obsessed about trying to determine every meaning in a song?

Wrong. Greenwood explained it in an interview, look for it if you'd like. It's about liberty and freedom. The song focuses on a homeless person who's gone insane and has fallen in love with some type of painting/statue/monument. A lot of people believe he's fallen in love with the Statue of Liberty. I think it was a painting of Picasso's that the homeless person fell in love with and he began believing the girl in the painting was his girlfriend/wife.

I always picture Citizen Cope taking the perspective of a crazy homeless man who lives next to a billboard with a woman's face on it. You'll never hear the song the same way again, but every lyric falls right in its place.

It's about the changing of a billboard picture. He's speaking as if he were homeless. Listen to this again.

This sounds like the tale of an insane homeless man up on a billboard scaffolding who fell in love with an ad featuring a female model and is fighting off the cops.

"it is a metaphor for someone who becomes one with and falls in love with their work and will stop at nothing to protect it. ChaCha" ( I did not come up with this but it's in my opinion a great way of seeing it)

A mentally lost and homeless veteran has fallen in love with a beautiful graffiti mural and feels the officers that have come to deface(remove) it have threatened the lady that he loves.

Couple of years back I'm next to a car playing this, the beat drops and automatically caught my attention... I heard maybe 10 words of the song, Googled for 2 weeks until I found this song..
