My mother used to blast this record and I could hear it coming all the way down the street from school, along with Blood Sweat and Tears and Woodstock's Country Joe and the Fish saying, "Gimmee an F!"
had a chance to sub in for the band a couple of times on the traps. incredible experience for a young drummer. man o man lydia can sing! would love to have heard her and janis share the stage!
This is one of my favorite tunes from Cold Blood. Wicked bass player. With the screaming horns and Lydia's moaning voice it all sounds like a woman being brought to an orgasm.
I cut my "soul horn section teeth" on this music. It SHOULD be as good as Tower of Power at that time. The groups shared at least some horn section personnel. I know that trumpeter Mic Gillette was in both groups in the early 70's. Both groups from the Bay area. Still, I much prefer Rocco Prestia, Dave Garabaldi and Chester Thompson as the rhythm section core. Anyone for Squib Cakes from "Back to Oakland?"
We all went bonkers over Lydia's vocals though. She absolutely RULED!
Cold Blood didn't get the exposure and airplay it deserved. Lydia can sing.
Not sure if classic rock radio would even dare to touch or even explore this band.
