I've never known much of Danny's stuff but I remember him signing this song at Christmas on the late late show in gay Byrne's time which isn't today or yesterday now.it was the 1st time I heard the song and I've loved it ever since.i heard a few others singing it too but Danny's version of this song make it definitive and his own.hes another Irish folk legend.
Ah thats so sad Danny Doyle has died another legend has left us,,,, this song brings bk fond me of my late father he loved this singer and his songs rest in peace Danny I'm emotional now listening to this beautiful song
I remember this song would always come on the radio on a Sunday as my mam would prepare the dinner, it's got a very haunting and nostalgic air about it, but at the same time beautiful. I mentioned this song to my dad in his flat one day - asked him did he remember it, he burst out singing it and then told me about what he was doing the year it was out, he's as Irish as you can get - a Kelly from the west of Ireland. R.I.P Danny Doyle and Seth Davy (the Jamaican street performer the song is about)
