It's one of these sublime solos that great musicians can pull off when they are having a special day.

Sign of a great drummer. Dave goes of into 2/4 ( or is it 4/4) anyway Joe just keeps playing 3/4 all the way through. I used to sit and try and most of the time got dragged away.

In my Alto days I wrote this solo out note for note, played everyday. Got chance to play in club and everybody love it.but the real musicians knew what was up.

It says something of both the quality of the melody (one of Disney's finest) AND the artistry of ALL the musicians involved that Miles Davis (once, with BOTH Hank Mobley & the incomparable John Coltrane) and Dave Brubeck's Quartet (TWICE!) could make great recordings of this timeless tune.

I believe that Paul Desmond solo on this song is truly great, I listen to it over and over. I can hum along.

It's crazy how this version came out before Miles Davis' version. I like both renditions for different reasons. Dave Brubeck's is light-hearted and bouncy, whereas Miles Davis' is slower, deeper, and poignant.

"I think it is among the best of Paul’s recorded solos." - Gene Lees, September, 1983 edition of Gene Lees’ JazzLetter.
