i remember reading a lawrence block detective novel a million tears ago and he referenced dave van ronk and i thought, wait a minute i know that, and looked through my ma and pas old albums and there was dave van ronk and the ragtime jugstompers album. been a real fan ever since, was lucky enough to see him, still taking smoke breaks and still with his powerful whiskey voice, told a tale of busking through the hankeytonks with a fella calling themselves the 'travelling trotskyite troubdours

I love this album. I had it then lost it. while listening to this video, i ordered a new copy from amazon. this track is so damn good. These songs that start off slow, then end with 'guns blazing' so to speak always get me. anyone who says that van ronk's early stuff is crap are so wrong.

I totally agree with your comment! I am glad you found a copy again. I try to expose people to new artists or let others remember how much they enjoyed something. Dave Van Ronk was a superb musician, and I keep hoping that more people will get to know him. Thanks so much for leaving your comment. I've been out of commission for a while, so I am just catching up. My best to you, Moppet (Barbara)

A sheriff told the deputy: ‘'Bring me Lazarus." A sheriff told the deputy: ‘'Bring me Lazarus." Dead or alive. Great god, dead or alive. Well, the deputy wonder. Where in the world to find him. Well, the deputy wonder. Where in the world to find him. I don't know. Great god, I just don't know. They found the poor Lazarus. Between two mountains. Well they found the poor Lazarus. Between two mountains. And they blowed him down. Great god, they blowed him down. Well, Lazarus told the deputy: ‘'I ain't never been rested" Well, Lazarus told the deputy: ‘'I ain't never been rested". By no one bad. By no one bad. Well, they killed the poor Lazarus. With a mighty number. Well, they killed the poor Lazarus. With a mighty number. A number 45. A number 45. Well, they took the poor Lazarus. To the commissary counter. Well, they took the poor Lazarus. To the commissary counter. And they walked away. Good god, they walked away. Well Lazarus' mother. Well she come runnin'. Well Lazarus' mother. Well she come runnin'. Crying: "My only son. Good god, my only son." Well, captain have you heard? Your men gonna leave you. Captain have you heard? Your men gonna leave you. Next pay day. Good god, on next pay day.

Wow, and to think it was bob dylan over whom everyone was fawning. Dear god. So hard to feel the spirit in this world. Ronk got it. Clever as he was, Dylan had to pretend.
