AHHHH ,the memories , 17 years old ,sitting on the curb in front of our local hangout spa with my buddies, listening to the radio and hearing this song for the first time , it was a mind blowing experience . As a teenager you just knew that nothing would ever be the same again as far as music was concerned. 77 years old and I still do not get tired of this song .
Whenever someone says that Elvis couldn't play the guitar, I remind them that it's him playing the driving, dynamic acoustic on this track. Listen to how he fades his guitar in and out--always staying with Bill's bass fiddle while sometimes challenging Scotty's new Gibson L-5 electric with an aggressive accent here and there. It's really good, dynamic rhythm guitar playing.
Ah, nothing like early Elvis--it's a shame Tom Parker got his hooks in. Elvis' voice just seems to come from somewhere else, not of this Earth. Fantastic.
This song is tied for first place with Marie's the Name of the latest flame, by Elvis, also. He is the greatest entertainer of all time, at least in my opinion.
