Carlos Santana also has an idol. He merged rock, blues, Latin, african and hungarian (or gypsy) into his music. He also named one of his hits "MR. SZABO". look it up. He didnt steal, he improved.
Man, this is the first time I've ever heard Gabor Szabo's version of this song. I always said I would check it out but never got around to it. The wait is well worth the prize!! Go, Gabor, Go!!
What a talent...not technically but imagination, creativity....brought something new, mystical to music based on his Hungarian background. (folk and gypsy music).
Everybody was influenced by him. I went to his house in L.A. in 1973, he didn't belong....
The original version is brilliant, santana's cover version took it to rock style while gabor version is in the jazz style, both versions are simply great
