Brilliant! It seems too many slept on him," now the consequences". The truth be told, but they keep killing the messengers and we forget the message. Will this be our epitaph? Sad state we're in. I hear you Mr.Heron.There is no "R.I.P".....

not surprised it was given little attention. First, it would have to received radio airplay, and that isn't how corporate media works. Second, even if the message was delivered, it would require that young people interested in self-promotion and being heard stop, take time to study and learn, and then deliver an informed message. Since the audience isn't or wasn't interested in hearing a deeper message, it would have and would be necessary to cultivate that audience. In the 60's and 70's, when GSH was in his prime, there was a sense of cultural sensitivity and a resulting movement for peace, justice, and of course, civil rights. He moved from Black rights to the rights of people in general, especially economic, as he grew and became more integrated (it happens that way for most people). When he did this, he doomed himself to even less radio attention. I wish this had been received back in the 80's and early 90's, when I was a big fan of rap. Other than Public Enemy, it was hard to find politically-conscious stuff. Thanks for posting.

I often use this video in the classroom; depending on the age of the audience, the audio portion can be more impactful.  Sometimes young students (high school and undergraduates) have trouble getting past the images.

I don't believe in shutting down freedom of speech so I don't bounce many comments out of here, but I have. I certainly waste no time and energy arguing with a stranger. But words are powerful as this Brother Poet proved. Some people throw away the power like trash in the street. Unless sanitation is your thing, most simply step over trash and let time and the wind blow it away. What some people have to say for their self, like the man says... "will only magnify how shallow you are and let everybody know it"... But then again, another wise man once said "If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us." - Hermann Hesse. Keep that last one in mind.... I always do.
