Good question. Sorry it took me so long to reply - I don't get on here much these days. But, the story goes that the principal songwriter and singer of this tune [Paul McCartney] was penning it as a tribute (and words of comfort) to John Lennon's son, Julian. Was written at the time John was divorcing Cynthia [Julian's mom] in order to be with Yoko. Paul felt that 'Julian' and 'Jules' didn't work for the tune (he tried both) so he went to 'Jude'. Hope that helps shed light. Best wishes.
