Somewhere in me basement I have that "Greatest Hits" album. Saw them a couple of times at Madison Square Garden in the early 1970s on a bill with the Four Seasons, the Four Tops and Tommy James & the Shondells. Amazing stuff, and great memories.
No, you did end up with her....forever in your heart. Love is the most painful emotion. I'm grateful for the memory and cry tears of joy at the same time. But, then again, he died at age 37. He played guitar and trumpet. When the trumpet part came along, he would grab the trumpet with one hand and play the part and everyone would just laugh and say "Juanchy your just the craziest musician I've ever met". God took him and gave another wonderful man a few years later. We're 25 years now.
It was after lunch, I had just finished my cigarette, and the bell was about to ring for class. She was standing inside with her friends along the wall when she saw me pull the door open from outside. She ran towards the doorway and blocked my path, and then she smiled to make me understand there would be a toll to pay. As we stared at each other one of her friends yelled out, "What about...", and said her boyfriends name. The magic moment disappeared but the memory hasn't.
