The opening rhythm reminds me of Kate Bush's Mother Stands For Comfort.

I've been chasing ghosts and I don't like it I wish someone would show me where to draw the line I'd lay down my sword if you would take it And tell everyone back home I'm doing fine I was with you down in Acapulco Trading clothing for some wine Smelling like an old adobe woman Or a William Burroughs playing for lost time I was thinking about my mother I was thinking about what's mine I was living my life like a Hollywood But I was dying on the vine Who could sleep through all that noisy chatter The troops, the celebrations in the sun The authorities say my papers are all in order And if I wasn't such a coward I would run I'll see you me when all the shooting's over Meet me on the other side of town Yes, you can bring all your friends along for protection It's always nice to have them hanging around I was thinking about my mother I was thinking about what's mine I was living my life like a Hollywood But I was dying, dying on the vine Compositores: John Davies Cale / Larry J. I love how simple songs are the most efective ones

I think Mr Cale did not become as famous as his long time partner Lou Reed because John Cale approaches his music from an improvisational angle. John Cale's music is not easy on the common ear, he takes a while to adapt too. His interpretation of music does not underestimate him, it makes him elusive and very interesting to listen too. He is definitely a protean musician. Just my simple insight.

Beautifully dark and haunting, the usual amazing sound and lyrics of John Cale.

In this song, his voice sounds a bit like Nick Cave (or maybe Nick Cave sounds like John Cale).

Such a moving and haunting song. Few artists are able to achieve that. TY Mr Cale.

This song has, more or less, stayed with me since I first heard it in 1985. My anthem!

A very special song. I have a friend who weeps at Cale's invocation of "my mother."
