Honestly not really my type of music... Although, it's nice to see the kind of... roots to the genre? or, from what I've been told what "Screamo" should be..
Check out "Venus and Bacchus" by Saetia and "In Love With an Apparition" by pg.99 if you want to hear two of the biggest bands from the original wave of screamo. You may still not like it, but it's definitely even more different still and worth giving a listen. There's more spoken word, for one thing. Which is nice.
Subgenres are kind of a necessary evil imo. If you're just going to label everything that can fit under punk as simply punk, you'd end up lumping pop punk bands like Blink 182 in the same category as grindcore bands like Napalm Death, which sound nothing alike at all.
I always thought that screamo was some bullshit Hot Topic genre that was invented in the past five years. Turns out it can actually be good. Chalk this up as another genre whose name has been stolen and abused to hype up bands that aren't even a part of it ie: metal, goth, industrial, techno.
