Merle Haggard is the best singer, well he and George Jones...but I love Classic Country Music and I haven't heard a song by Merle Haggard that was bad.
My grandfather took me to see Merle Haggard when I was 8 years old (40 years ago!) The concert was held in a school auditorium. We got to go up on the stage to talk Mr. Haggard after the concert and I remember shaking hands with him and telling him he was a "good singer".
So sad to hear about his death. Sure am glad I already started on the Jack Daniels beforehand. Hope the bottle doesn't let me down. R.I.P To one of the greatest of all time
You never and i mean NEVER hear the greats on the radio anymore . They dont play them . but mark my words , When Merle passes , we will be forced to watch florida georgia line butcher this song on some horse shit award show spewing about how much he influenced them . Country music " and i use that term loosely " nowadays is full of spray on tans , ear rings , hair gel , designer boots , glitter and makeup .................................and the girls suck to .
I met Merle and got his autograph when I was 17. 1971. We saw him in a small restaurant before his show in Corpus Christi. We were petrified to approach him but me and my friend did. He was seated with two guys. He was exactly like you would think. We were not an intrusion to him. He gave us the autographs and said, 'Thank you, boys.' Class act and absolutely no doubt, one of the greats.
