If it takes forever I will wait for you
For a thousand summers I will wait for you
Till you're back beside me, till I'm holding you
Till I hear you sigh here in my arms
Anywhere you wander, anywhere you go
Every day remember how I love you so
In your heart believe what in my heart I know
That forevermore I will wait for you
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
Then the time will come when all the waiting's done
The time when you return and find me here and run
Straight to my waiting arms
If it takes forever I will wait for you
For a thousand summers I will wait for you
Till you're here beside me, till I'm touching you
And forevermore sharing your love
I saw this film in 1965 and recalled that the whole dialogue was conducted musically almost like operatic recitative. I love the song in this clip but wouldn't have recalled that it was from the movie. BTW, the girl is stunning!
Un unbelieavably beaUtiful film. What I like about this film is that it portrays petite aspects of a small life in the most magnificient way. Its color is so beautiful that it is aching and its music is unforgettable. The last scene is just a gem; a life.
Without question, THE most romantic film ever put on film. Nothing even comes close. Saw it in LA on a technicolor print on Hollywood Blvd at 18 and it absolutely wrecked me. It's a genuine masterpiece and no musical has ever gotten anywhere close to this. It is a perfect film. If you haven't seen it, don't waste it. Pee, lock yourself in a room and turn all electronics off and disappear. You won't regret it and you won't come out with a dry eye. That's a guarantee. You think this clip in French is good? Wait until your read the subtitles. It'll crush you.
I'm an old codger now but this song has been one of my all time favourites since my teens. And Catherine Deneuve, together with my wife, is easily the most beautiful woman to have taken breath.
