N.H.O.P.a leviathon.no better bass player lived on this planet.a complete master and wonderful human being.wat a sad loss.still hard to come to terms with.r.i.p.
NHOP was undoubtedly the best jazz (and else!) double bassist ever existed in the world. Immaculate intonation, flawless technique, great swing, emotion. So sad he passed away. However, there are hundreds, maybe a thousand or so of his bass playing on recordings.
I just cannot believe the SOUND this bass makes. It's just mindblowing. The depth, the clarity, the lyrical beauty. This dude is so far and beyond anything else I've ever heard from a bassplayer.
THERE ARE SO MANY VERY TALENTED UPRIGHT BASS MUSICIANS PAST & PRESENT BUT I'VE LONG HAD A SPECIAL FONDNESS FOR THE PLAYING OF NEILS HENNING ORSTED PEDERSEN !!
N.H.Ø.P. was a fantastic bass player, indeed. Such great musicality! His music has such a calming effect on me. In high school I was in the same class as his daughter Marie. She had great musicality, too, and sang beautifully. I felt very sad for her and her family when I heard that he had died years after I had left high school. N.H.Ø.P. is a legend in his field and always will be.
