You are so right. Look at "Soldier's Dilemna" and "You Know The Score", two excellent anti-war songs. The Hollies didn't do meaningful songs? Hogwash.

The irony is that Nash left The Hollies so he could do more "relevant" and less "pop" music. Yet his material on the first two CSN(Y) albums is, IMHO, extremely lightweight, and none of it can begin to hold a candle to this song (or "Goodbye Tomorrow") in terms of "realness" and emotional depth. This is an enduring classic that I've loved forever and a day...thanks for giving it a wider audience!

Songs like this, written and performed by the Hollies makes a mockery of the claim by Nash that the group were only interested in doing "pop " songs which caused him to leave the group.

Also, at the risk of promulgating the 'existential angst of artists' stereotype, being happy, content and spiritually more centred - as Nash clearly was with CSNY, in the USA - is not necessarily conducive to good songwriting/creativity in general (though it's complex; if one looks at male singer-songwriter, Dion's work, for example, the opposite is true).

Musical poetry from the greatest and most underrated of  pop groups...............of all time.     Listen to their early LPs.

It was heartwarming to see Graham's interview for Rolling Stone, in which he confirms their mutual admiration. Graham got the American recognition he so badly wanted, and Allan's Hollies with Tony, Bobby, Bernie & Terry soared. To see them celebrate together at the Hall Of Fame induction was a thrilling conclusion.

If you think about it Graham Nash left but The Hollies continued to thrive which confirmed that Allan Clarke was the voice of the band. Glad that they are all friends again though after all they formed the group together from their Salford days.

A very important song to me in the winter of 1990 when I was 16 years old and in the midst of High School. It touched me deeply -- as did most of the album from which it came.

Yes, I agree with that assessment. I think that Nash's musical sensibilities were actually very well-attuned to (increasingly experimental) British pop and of course he was a co-writer of songs with two of the other the Hollies. In CSNY, there were three of the best songwriters in the Anglophone world (CSY) attuned to somewhat differing sensibilities; their roots were in the North American folk world. So while his harmonies made the CSNY unique and special, I think his songwriting suffered.
