Opportunities are available in all walks of life in Australia So if you're young and if you're healthy Why not get a boat and come to Australia Australia, the chance of a lifetime Australia, you get what you work for Nobody has to be any better than what they want to be Australia, no class distinction Australia, no drug addiction Nobody's got a chip on their shoulder We'll surf like they do in the U.S.A. We'll fly down to Sydney for our holiday On sunny Christmas Day Australia, Australia No one hesitates at life or beats around the bush in Australia So if you're young and if you're healthy Why not get a boat and come to Australia Australia sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la Australia sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la Everyone walks around with a perpetual smile across their face Australia sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la Australia sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la Everyone gets around and nobody can ever get you down We'll surf like they do in the U.S.A. We'll fly down to Sydney for our holiday On sunny Christmas Day Australia, Australia

I like how it starts as an almost commercial song for Australia, then by the end it goes all the way off the rails into psychedelic Austrailian goodness.  THOSE HORNS!!!!

We are in the minority my friend, but we know what we're talking about!! I totally agree with what ya said. Yes, McCartney and Lennon were good songwriters BUT Davies was wayy better than any of them! I'd take Ray Davies over anyone else in a flash!!! He is so down to Earth and he just knows how to write a good song. I'm not talking good song meaning 2 minute pop single. I'm talking about a deep, thoughtful and sometimes funny kind of song! And by god, God save the Kinks!!!

The one shame about The Kinks is how few Americans understand/appreciate the music.  I suppose it's because it's almost exclusively influenced by British culture.  This song is a good example.  When I played it for a couple friends (who 'love' the Beatles, Beach Boys, Stones, etc.) they just couldn't really 'get it'.  The Kinks are a wonderful group tho and the entire Arthur album is one of my favorites, despite my American Midwest upbringing!

I guess the reason I like Rays and the Kinks music is because I was born in the UK and now live in Australia so have some nostalgia which is what they are about having intelligent Lyrics that are making a point about the past and the current times

Arthur is definitely the Kinks' finest album; in fact, Arthur is one of those few albums that is truly flawless.

A fun little lark of a song, full of good-natured Ray Davies satire and sha-la-la-la backing vocals, turns into something incredible at the 2:40 mark. I can listen to that instrumental workout 100 times back to back and never get tired of it. Ray, Dave, and the group are just magnificent together in what has to be The Kinks' finest moment.

I recently joined the crew watching Prisoner Cell Block H here on yt and this song reverberates in my skull with every successive storyline. " no class distinction, no drug addiction " indeed!!!! Lmao. Honestly, diving into yesteryear is all that makes today's world tolerable hahahha!!!!
