Two years later Dusty Springfield would become a household name in America with the song "I only want to be with you" in February 1964 on the Back of The Beatles "I want to hold your hand".
This is what you get when you combine a very talented set of vocalists with a brilliantly written song. I don't think I'd ever heard this until yesterday, and I just had to find out about this song. PS: to anyone who even puts Adele in the same sentence as Dusty Sringfiled... please go far far far awy.
In 1962, two or three minutes of melodic magic was what singles such as this one were all about and the main reason they are still remembered so fondly by us babyboomers all these many decades later. By contrast, today's records have no melody and no magic and are completely unmemorable. This is the best version of this song and even beats The Everly Brothers version recorded a year or two later.
So privilleged to be a "Baby boomer", and to have had the experience of living in this wonderful era and listening to the Springfields and the real music of the 50's and 60''s. I am 78 next week and listening to this song makes me feel I'm a spring-chicken in my 30's once again.
