I saw Tim in 1967 at the Troubadour club in L.A. I sat right at the edge of that small stage. He was so skinny and moved like a rubber man. I became a lifelong devout nudist at Woodstock in 1969, and this song speaks a great deal of the deep personal liberation I embraced back then and live by to this very day. Some of us from that time DID NOT SELL OUR SOULS, we few have kept true to the liberation philosophy of that revolutionary time, and Tim spoke to it.

Tim's criticism of the society was dead on in 67 but his prediction that we hippies would overcome was sadly ludicrous. his Antique People, ashes, murder and mammon are ever more powerful. Mammon is president assisted by vaudeville generals. Godless directionless loons.....

All these years on, my goosebumps have goosebumps. Tim's voice has always sounded other-worldly.

I saw Tim in the early 70's and it was a moving and incredible experience. This is one of his most creative songs. The best thing about Tim is that he has such a spectacular musical range in all respects. Such a sad thing that we lost him so young. Thanks for posting.

Used to listen to this at 2 am in the morning when I was drinking wine and upset about breaking up with my boyfiriend. This song consoled me. P.S. I married my boyfriend and had 40 years with my dear husband before he passed away.

More than a song or poem.   A true composition.

Just listened to this for the first time in years, still so powerful, he had a real vision for the future. Lets join the new children! :)

Tim was just 20 years old when this was released, such profound, clever lyrics, he was a rare (but "fleeting") talent.

3:38-3:47 gives me goosebumps. So damn legendary this song is being about things changing after Generation after generation after generation on learning our mistakes about humanity and what we do on this earth.

Thinking back to the sound of the ocean rolling in, the sound of Tim strumming his twelve string and singing... I was lost without a song without a melody You came into my hotel life You made my room a home Ah now, mama, don't you know what you done

This song is quoted in one of the short stories included in "Altri libertini" by the italian writer Pier Vittorio Tondelli. Through him I become to listen this song and the album of Tim Buckley. This is Music. I mentioned this song in one of my university exams (I study Italian Literature), and my professor was very happy. And I was very happy too.

I saw Tim Buckley live at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit in 1969 and will never forget that experience sitting in front of him front row. I am 65 years old and have never heard a more pure and honest voice. I miss Tim and his potential.

I love this so much! Piece of art. No words could express the greatness of this masterpiece. And it is the hidden truth for why everything that is gold is un-heard and un-appreciated.
