Love that whisper repeating everything. That effect is not used enough; very creepy and trippy

I first heard this song in San Francisco, in 1967. A friend and I went out to start that band that never happened - like SF needed another rock band... We went to someones house, and a guy had some albums he had just brought back from the UK, with those vinyl-ish jackets. We all really liked this song! I've hardly heard it since. And also- According to drummer John 'Twink' Alder, the song was inspired by the Dutch Provos, an anarchist group in Amsterdam which instituted a community bicycle program: "they had white bicycles in Amsterdam and they used to leave them around the town. And if you were going somewhere and you needed to use a bike, you'd just take the bike and you'd go somewhere and just leave it. Whoever needed the bikes would take them and leave them when they were done."

Cool tunage and just a downright fun song . I gotta admit that I like the Nazareth version much better . Steve Howe is one of the greatest guitarists of all time . Met him at a local rock radio station in '86 or '87 while he was promoting GTR with Steve Hackett . They both signed my YES " Fragile" album . Cool stuff !

This was one of the songs that Halfnelson (early carnation of Sparks) used to cover during their live gigs in 1970-1973.

One of the best UK Psych singles ever by one of the best UK bands. They were astonishing 'live' too! I saw them a couple of times, notably Christmas On Earth (Cont) in '67. To my amazement that set suddenly turned up a few years back as  the '50m Technicolour Dream' CD. Its a crusty recording but the essence is there. The only band that had the Balls to cover Strawberry Fields Forever and play it live too!!!

"My White Bicycle" is actually inspired by the free white bikes that used to be left all over the place in Amsterdam in the late 60's, by the 'Dutch Provos' anarchist organisation. Anyone could use them and just leave them for someone else to use ! Hoffman was a good try, but no gold star I'm afraid.
