I love Wynton but this version is too fast, it loses some of that nostalgic feel the tune has.

Yeah now days it is, Jazz was the rock and roll and the rap of the 20's and 30's, by the 60's it was the normal music, and once rock and roll came around jazz was oldies music... and I'm pretty sure they liked France because it was beautiful and it's the home to all arts (poets, writers, painters etc etc)
