One of my favorite songs as a child, brings back so many memories, this song was released in 1978 and in 2020 is still an amazing piece of music, truly a work of art,I'm so suprised not one rapper has made a sample selection from this piece, so many wonderful riffs, hooks & baselines, kinda reminds me of a stand off between a tekken fighter and a street fighter.....beautiful!
Spring 1980 Bret Harte School Chicago, we used to sneak across Lake Shore Dr. over to the Museum ( of Science & Industry) on our lunch break & I have vivid memories of this song playing.
This was my Mom's joint back in '80 on WGIV in Charlotte, NC. Also remember this being played at Kate's Skating Rink on Delta Rd., now E. Harris Blvd. in '80-'81.
This never gets old. First heard this on ABC's Saturday program Wide World of Sports. Been listening ever since. Before we learned the name, my brother and I called it, "Chinese Disco"...lol
BOYYY, this was the ish back then! This really went over well in the black community. Our generation (70's & 80's) was exposed to a lot of different music, artists & genres & we didn't care if you were white, asian, male, female, young, old, whatever. As long as you sounded good, you were accepted.
Without a doubt one of the most influential songs during the early days of NYC HipHop! Along with Kraftwerk numbers, Apache, Just Begun & Rock Creek Park
In Detroit, this was first played by The Electrifying Mojo on WGPR...313 represent! Btw, since I found this song two days ago, I can't stop listening to this...This is waaay too funky!!!
